Beat The Heat with Proper Watering
Brown Patch is a fungus that develops in the presence of water and cooler temperatures in St. Augustine and Zoysia lawns. October often brings just that. The occasional cool front brings the slight dip in temperatures and rain needed for fungal development. While we all enjoy the cooler weather, us applicators also realize that brown patch season has been ushered in along with it.
Factors that lead to Brown Patch
Brown patch develops when nighttime temperatures are below 68, day time temps are below 90 and excess moisture is present. Actively growing brown patch develops in a circular pattern defined by a vibrant yellow or orange border. A large contributor to the development of brown patch is excess water. To avoid creating an environment prone to brown patch, water only as necessary and in the morning. Here are our general fall watering recommendations.
Water 2 days per week
Rotors: 20-30 minutes per zone
Sprays: 10-15 minutes per zone
Beds: 10 minutes per zone
Water between 6-10am to allow the grass to dry. Prolonged periods of wet can lead to brown patch development

Extra Protection Against Brown Patch
One fungicide treatment is included with our St. Augustine and Zoysia program. This has been applied and will protect your lawn for approximately 28 days. If you would like to extend control, we are offering a supplemental fungicide treatment. You are a good candidate for this application if your lawn has a history of brown patch. If interested, please email or call us at 281-375-5100.
